Kimes Convalescent Center, located on Kimes Lane in Athens, is a 61-bed intermediate care nursing facility established in 1965 by Fay and Harold Kimes. Residents enjoy a rural setting with the convenience of being within city limits. Residential activities include weekly themed parties like Moon Day, celebrated with CHEESE and crackers and a rocket/astronaut display to commemorate the first walk on the moon. Home-cooked meals, weekly ministerial visits with guitar worship and volunteer visitors who read, conduct crafts and share movies help residents pass the time with interest.
Activities Director, Linda Beasley, is planning to build residents raised-bed gardens for vegetables and flowers with assistance from local FFA high schoolers to provide some extra special outside activities for residents.
