ATHENS, Ohio (August 9, 2000) -- Ohio University plans to implement a free shuttle service to The
Ridges early this fall as a pilot project.
A 15-passenger van will make about six stops at various campus locations at half-hour
intervals, said Kim Wortman, interim director of campus services. Two stops are planned on
The Ridges, and other locations will be determined in coming weeks. Hours of operation
are tentatively set for 7:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.
"We are looking at ways we can provide value-added services to the university
community, particularly to students," Wortman said. "Providing free and reliable
transportation certainly fits that theme."
The service is a pilot project that will be reevaluated after one to two quarters, Wortman
said. The decision of whether to continue it -- or possibly expand it -- will be based on
ridership, cost and similar factors.
Applications now are being accepted from students interested in driving for the shuttle
service. To apply, students should contact Jerrie Allman at the university garage at 593-1611
or stop by the garage, located off South Shafer Street at 1 Riverside Drive, to fill out an
application.
