ATHENS, Ohio (August 4, 2000) -- Ohio University Public Television, WOUB-TV, will sign back on the air on Monday, August 7, 2000. As many avid viewers know, WOUB-TV signed off the air on July 2 to install a new dual analog/digital transmitter. This new transmitter installation allows WOUB-TV to expand its services and to provide a cleaner, clearer Channel 20 picture for viewers.
"We are very excited about the installation of our new transmitter," says Doug Partusch, Director of Marketing and Development. Not only is WOUB-TV better, but it is also ready to step into the digital future. "The new transmitter will be more reliable as we are replacing a worn and obsolete unit with a new state-of-the-art one. This new dual-transmitter will also provide for the digital channel 27 planned to debut next summer," Director of Engineering David Wiseman said. The door to the digital future will open up avenues for public television that have never been possible before. The digital conversion process is mandatory for all public television stations by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), and must be completed by the year 2003.
Ohio University Public Television apologizes to members and viewers for interrupting programming and for any inconvenience that the WOUB transmitter replacement may have caused. WOUB-TV realizes that public television is an essential service utilized daily by many children and families throughout the region. When WOUB-TV returns to the air this Monday, Ohio University Public Television (WOUB/WOUC-TV) will begin testing a 24-hour service, with the goal of moving to a continuous 24-hour broadcast on Sunday, September 17.
All viewers are invited to join Ohio University Public Television for the new fall season! Premiering in September are three new children's programs, Clifford the Big Red Dog, Caillou and The Bookworm Bunch.
