Ohio University Students Receive Political

ATHENS, Ohio (August 1, 2000) -- Ohio University's Department of Political Science recently presented current students and alumni with a variety of awards and scholarships.
The 2000 Political Science Awards Banquet marked the 23rd time the department has honored students and alumni. Since the banquet's inception, hundreds of individuals have benefited from the awards.
Recipients included:
- Outstanding Alumna of the Year -- Lynn Kamenitsa
- Outstanding Internship Sponsor Award -- Karen Harvey
- Outstanding Intern Award -- Kathleen McGarvey and Eleni Zulia
- Outstanding Graduate Associate Award -- Jillian Herbst and Loren Raszick
- Outstanding Teaching Associate Award -- Robin Ramey
- Outstanding Master of Arts Award -- Regina Hanshaw and Anna Rankin
- Outstanding Master of Public Administration Award -- Robin Ramey
- Outstanding Regional Public Administration Scholar Award -- Stephanie Bevens and Melissa Freeman
- Café Max Scholarship -- James Bush, Regina Hanshaw, Jillian Herbst, Bridgett Royer and Sherry Hill
- Sara Katherine Ullman Memorial Internship Award -- Aradhana Walker
- Karen Jenkins King Memorial Scholarship -- Kristen Flanagan and Sam Austin
- Ernest M. and Osie T. Collins Endowed Scholarship -- Julie Glavan
- Rev. Dr. Robert E. Crawford and Son Memorial Scholarship -- Matthew Banal and Brent Ralston
- Lillian Ramos Award -- Rion Richardson
- Alan Aichinger Memorial Scholarship -- Upendri Gunasekera
- Outstanding Graduating Senior Award -- Sarah Fitzsimons and Michael Michetti

- Outstanding Major on a Regional Campus -- Michael Lerner
The department chose recipients based on various criteria. For instance, several of the awards (Outstanding Alumna of the Year, Outstanding Intern, Outstanding Teaching Assistant) rely on the recommendation of department faculty, while others (Café Max, Outstanding Master of Public Administration) go to the student(s) with the highest grade point average.
Ohio University's Department of Political Science offers a variety of courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels and awards BA, MA and MPA degrees. Further, political science students can gain public service experience through the department's Public Affairs Internship program and through Ohio University's Institute for Local Government Administration and Rural Development (ILGARD).
