ATHENS, Ohio (July 18, 2000) -- Ohio University has named Leigh A. Trapp, a Pickerington-area resident, to head the Pickerington Center, Ohio University's newest addition to its regional campus division.
The Pickerington Center, a 15,000-square foot facility located in Stonecreek Plaza, has eight classrooms, including a computer lab and videoconferencing room.
Trapp, who began her new role July 1, will be responsible for the daily operation of the center, which will offer a mix of credit and noncredit courses, business and industry development and training and special programming.
The Ohio University-Lancaster campus has offered courses in Pickerington for more than 20 years but needs a facility of its own to expand its courses and programs. The facility will celebrate its grand opening in late August or early September.
The director's position is supported through an Ohio University-Lancaster grant and reports directly to Bari Watkins, dean of Ohio University's Lancaster Campus.
"Leigh Trapp combines knowledge of Ohio University with broad experience in business and education," said Charles Bird, Ohio University vice president of regional higher education. "She brings a level of energy and enthusiasm that will help assure the success of our new Pickerington Center. We intend the center to offer exciting new opportunities in education and community service to Fairfield County."
For the last four years, Trapp served as tech prep development coordinator for the Heart of Ohio Tech Prep Consortium. She assisted in developing tech prep secondary and post-secondary curricula and pathways and creating and facilitating professional development activities for secondary teachers.
Trapp also worked with junior high and high school students and their families as a counselor at Palmyra-Macedon High School in New York. Her extensive grant writing experience has resulted in awards from the Ohio Board of Regents, the Ohio Department of Education and the National Science Foundation. Trapp has coordinated many special projects and business-academic partnerships.
Trapp received her bachelor's degree in management science and marketing from the State University of New York at Geneseo and her master's degree in education and school counseling from the University of Delaware. She lives in Violet Township with her husband, Lee, and daughter, Elizabeth.
