Submit Stories for the 2000 Athens Messenger Freshman Edition
Contact: Dwight Woodward, woodward@ohio.edu
ATHENS, Ohio (May 22, 2000) -- Deans, Department Chairs, Faculty and Administrative Units, the Athens Messenger is once again preparing for the newspaper's annual Freshman Edition, which will be mailed to students and parents in early July. The Messenger has requested that University Media Services collect these articles for the paper. To increase chances that your submissions will be printed, we asked Messenger editors to clarify what they are looking for. Please review their guidelines:
- The Messenger's Freshman Edition is aimed at new students to Ohio University and Hocking College. This would include freshmen/first-year students as well as transfer and graduate students.
- The paper's goal is to offer them news they can use -- what their school offers that they wouldn't already know about, how to get around, spare-time activities, who to call in an emergency, coping with health concerns, and so on.
- We don't want the college edition to be a college catalogue. Information that the student already would have access to -- course descriptions and such -- won't be included.
- Photographs can be submitted with articles, and will be used if space allows, the photo is of good quality and its use will enhance the article. We avoid using photographs that are old, or contain people who are not identified by name. If we receive an article that does not include a photograph, and we feel one is warranted, we will have a Messenger photographer shoot it.
Please submit your article by e-mail to news@ohio.edu or submit an IBM-formatted diskette in WordPerfect or Microsoft Word format to Susan Keys at Media Services, Scott Quad 165.
Articles and photographs submitted for possible inclusion in the Freshman Edition should reach University Media Services by Wednesday, June 14.
