ATHENS, Ohio (June 7, 2000) -- Ohio University undergraduate commencement speaker Helen
Thomas, former United Press International White House bureau chief, will speak at the
10 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. commencement ceremonies Saturday, June 10, in the
Convocation Center.
Press credentials for the two ceremonies will be available Thursday, June 8, at 164
Scott Quad and at the Physical Therapy entrance on the west side of the Convocation
Center June 10. Near the west side entrance, a media room with audio and video feeds
of the ceremony will be available to reporters.
Thomas will be available for interviews with reporters for 15 minutes following the
10 a.m. commencement ceremony. She will take questions from reporters in the media
room about noon. Thomas will not respond to questions about her recent resignation
from UPI or the sale of the news service.
High resolution JPEG photos suitable for newspaper reproduction of
commencement highlights will be uploaded to the World Wide Web after the ceremonies
Saturday. The URL will be listed on a press release to be issued by 2 p.m.
Saturday.
