ATHENS, Ohio (June 7, 2000) -- Three individuals are recipients of the
university's 1999-2000 Outstanding Administrator Awards. Kip Howard,
director of admissions; John Ray, a senior radio producer in the
Telecommunications Center; and Jo Ellen Sherow, director of laboratory
animal resources, are this year's recipients. Each will receive $1,000
for professional development.
First given in 1975, Outstanding Administrator Awards are presented to
individuals who exemplify a strong commitment and distinguished
service to Ohio University. The awards program is sponsored by
Administrative Senate and voted on annually by a nine-member
committee. This year's winners were chosen from a list of 26 nominees.
Howard has headed the Office of Admissions for nine years, helping his
department gain the trust and confidence of secondary school
counselors and administrators. His expertise is often solicited by the
ACT Corp., which administers the ACT exam, and the Ohio Board of
Regents.
Ray has been with the university for 35 years and is the
longest tenured senator in Administrative Senate. He is the producer
of "Afternoon Edition," a half-hour weekday news magazine that airs
on Ohio University Public Radio, and also supervises students who
produce a daily public affairs feature.
Sherow joined the university in 1984 and helps ensure the humane use
and care of animals in teaching and research. Her commitment to
research projects has helped faculty, students and staff gain a better
understanding of life-threatening conditions such as diabetes, heart
disease and Alzheimer's, She was instrumental in the university
receiving accreditation from the Association for Assessment and
Accreditation of Laboratory Animal Care in February.
