ATHENS, Ohio (May 26, 2000) -- Ohio seniors Katie Geib (Erie, Pa.) and Heather
Fueger (West Lafayette, Ind.) have been named to GTE Academic
All-District Teams. To be nominated, student-athletes must be a starter
or important reserve, and must carry a cumulative grade point average
of 3.20 or higher. The team members are chosen by a vote of members of
the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) within the
district.
Katie Geib has been named to the Academic All-District
First-Team, which qualifies her for the All-American national ballot.
She had an impressive season with Ohio placing third in the high jump
at the 2000 MAC Outdoor Championships where she also helped the
1600-meter relay team to a seventh-place finish. She was also a
three-time winner this season in the 800-meter run and a two-time
winner in the high jump. On March 28, she was named a MAC Scholar
Athlete of the Week.
Heather Fueger, who was named to the Academic All-District
second-team, earned All-MAC First-Team honors after helping her team to
a second-place finish at the MAC Women's Golf Championships in April.
She finished in the top-ten seven times in the 1999-00 season,
including wins at the Falcon Invitational and the Lady Colonel Fall
Classic. She was also named a MAC Scholar Athlete of the Week on
October 19, 1999.
