Ohio's Tony Schiml
Signs with the Boston Red Sox
ATHENS, Ohio (May 26, 2000) -- Ohio baseball's Tony Schiml (Dayton) has signed a
major-bonus contract with the Boston Red Sox. The left-hander, the
Mid-American Conference Pitcher of the Year, will report to the Lowell Red
Sox in Lowell, Mass.
Schiml, who was courted by 10 teams, was able to sign the contract
before the draft due to his fifth-year senior status. The contract is for one
year and includes a major signing bonus.
Schiml was named Mid-American Conference Pitcher of the Year after
posting a league-best 9-2 record, which included eight-straight wins
against MAC opponents. Schiml was also named to the All-MAC First Team
by a unanimous decision and to the All-MAC Tournament team.
