ATHENS, Ohio (May 18, 2000) -- Ohio University Associate Professor of Journalism Cassandra
Reese has been awarded the 2000 Division of Student Affairs Faculty Contribution Award for her
contributions to student development and growth outside of the traditional classroom role. Nominations
are made by units in the Division of Student Affairs on the Athens campus and regional campuses.
Reese's commitment to students is evident in many areas of university life. For example, she
has shown her concern for young people attending the university while presiding over judicial
hearings for the Office of Student Judiciaries.
"In this capacity, she has been a mentor and guide to the many students who have served with
her on these boards," said Vice President for Student Affairs Mike Sostarich. "To a person,
they spoke of her ability to approach these deliberations devoid of any personal agenda. She
challenges the students to do something about their behavior so that they might avoid getting in
the same situation again."
Reese serves as a faculty associate on the South Green where she attends many residence
hall events and counsels students. Three times a year, Reese takes students to New York and
Chicago on career day trips. Reese organizes receptions for new students in the E.W. Scripps
School of Journalism and serves as faculty advisor to the Advertising Club. She also serves on
the Templeton-Blackburn Scholarship Committee.
Reese has taught advertising management at Ohio University for 10 years.
"Dr. Reese is knowledgeable of the subject matter and presents the material in an interesting,
challenging manner," said advertising management major Jessica George, who has been a student in
Reese's classes.
