Ohio Closes Regular Season with 2000 Ohio Open

Athens, Ohio (May 13, 2000) -- The Ohio men's and women's track and field teams closed the 2000 regular season with the Ohio Open at Peden Stadium on Saturday. The Bobcats honored 13 seniors who were competing at home for the last time in their careers.

The field for the meet consisted of competitors from Ohio, Marshall, Denison and Ohio Wesleyan as well as a few former Bobcats competing unattached. The meet was not scored.

This weekend's open allowed the Bobcats a final preparation for the Mid-American Conference Championships to be held at the University at Buffalo on Thursday-Saturday, May 18-20.

The Following Seniors were honored at the Ohio Open:

Ben Myers, Rushville, OH -- 3-year letterwinner, 2nd in MAC Steeplechase 1998, 2-time All MAC Cross-Country, Education major

Dennis Russo, Rockaway Township, NJ -- 3-year letterwinner, MAC Place Winner Javelin 1997, 1998, 1999, School Record Holder New Javelin 201 Ft. 6 inches, Criminology major

Mike Young, Buffalo, NY -- 1-year letterwinner, Decathlon Event, Exercise Physiology major

Juli Algire, Fredricktown, OH -- 3-year letterwinner, Placed MAC Shot Put in 1996, 1997, and 1998, History major

Amy Angelina, Oswego, NY -- 1-year letterwinner, Javelin Throw Best Effort 107-1, Wildlife Biology major

Tommi Crowley, Columbus, OH -- 2-year letterwinner, Member School Record 400 Relay 46.16, Sports Industry major

Erin Dorman, Fultonville, NY -- 2-year letterwinner, Triple Jump and High Jump, Elementary Education major

Katie Geib, Erie, PA -- Co-Captain, 3-year letterwinner, Freshman MVP, Placed MAC High Jump 1997, 1998, 1999, Member School Record 1600 Relay 3:43.55, Industrial Engineering major

Jennifer Lee, New Philadelphia, OH -- 3-year letterwinner, 100 and 400 Hurdles, Criminology major

Najah McFarland, Cleveland Heights, OH -- 3-year letterwinner, Member School Record 400 Relay 46.16 and 1600 Relay 3:43.55, Placed in MAC 100 and 200 meters in 1998, English major

Hannah Naumoff, Smithville, OH -- 2-year letterwinner, 400 Hurdles Best Time 64.21, Environmental Pre-Law major

Lori Spitler, Eaton, OH -- 3-year letterwinner, 400 Meters Best Time 58.21, School Record Holder Indoor Distance Medley Relay, Exercise Physiology major

Sarah Yeager, Fremont, OH -- Co-Captain, 3-year letterwinner, Member School Record Indoor Distance Medley Relay 400 and 800 Events, Exercise Physiology major
