ATHENS, Ohio (May 11, 2000) -- Ohio wrestling head coach Joel Greenlee recently announced the addition of five wrestlers for the 2000-01 season. John Spires (Lancaster), Jake Percival (Amherst), Travis Moody (Medina), Tony De Anna (Westlake) and Jeremiah Beltran (Olathe, Kan.) have signed National Letters of Intent to join the Bobcat wrestling roster this fall.

John Spires (133/141) ranked sixth in the country by Intermat after becoming a 2000 Ohio State Champion. He's a three-time placewinner, placing third in the state in 1999 and sixth in 1997.

Jake Percival (141/149 lbs), who's ranked number one in the country by Amateur Wrestling News, posted a 36-0 senior record and was a 2000 Ohio State Champion. He placed second in the state championships in 1998 and 1999, and took a third place finish in 1997 at the state tournament.

Jeremiah Beltran comes to Ohio from Olathe, Kan. Beltran is ranked third in the country by Amateur Wrestling News after posting a 78-5 career record, which included 69 pins. A 2000 Kansas State Champion, he placed second in the state in 1999 and fifth at the junior nationals in both Greco-Roman and freestyle competitions.

Travis Moody wrestled at 125-lbs at Buckeye High School in Medina, Ohio. He posted a 44-3 senior record and went on to place second in the state at the Ohio State Championships.

Tony De Anna posted a 32-3 senior record at Westlake High School. He was a 1999 state qualifier, and was unable to wrestle at the 2000 championships due to injury.

Ohio finished third in the Mid-American Conference Wrestling Championships in March.
