Campus Recycling Asks for Reusables
As spring quarter comes to a close, many minds turn to thoughts of leaving town for the summer
and/or beyond. Now is an excellent time to leave a last good mark on Athens and the surrounding
local communities by recycling and setting out reusables.

Plan ahead. Ninety or more percent of waste is recyclable or reusable.
Less trash means less mess, less waste and helps local people in need. If you
have furniture in good condition call APAC at 797-2608 and they will pick it up
from your residence hall room, house or apartment. All other good recyclables should be
placed in central reusable collection sites. During finals week there will be food collection
sites set up in the lobbies of campus residence halls and on the ground floor of New South
Buildings just as was done at the end of Fall Quarter. We collected about two tons
of food to donate to those in need then, and expect even more this time. Whatever you do,
please don't throw out unopened food.
We recommend that you use the sites early and take home what you don't need on Memorial
Day Weekend if you are going home.
We will be recycling all carpeting this year. Please roll up your carpet
and place it next to the recycling and dumpster areas.
Off campus neighborhoods will also have reusable collection service on
their designated trash and recycling collection days. Please utilize these
unique and cost saving services. This too will start on the 22nd of May and continue
until the 16th of June.
Collection of reusables will also be done by Re-Use Industries
(740-698-8200), Albany Tutoring Center (740-698-2464) and Hurricane Mitch Relief
(594-9827).

Please help. Recycle and put out reusables and help keep costs down for you, OU and the City
of Athens, and help people in need in our local communities and in Honduras.
Thanks and have a great rest of the quarter!
