Campus Recycling Asks for Reusables

As spring quarter comes to a close, many minds turn to thoughts of leaving town for the summer and/or beyond. Now is an excellent time to leave a last good mark on Athens and the surrounding local communities by recycling and setting out reusables.

Campus Recycling wants to let you know that starting May 22nd we will have Reusable collection sites out by the recycling and trash dumpster areas at all the residence halls.

We'll be collecting:

Unfinished Notebooks Banners Pens/Pencils Books Art Paper
Folders/Notebook Binder
School, Office and Art Supplies Any unused paper Bed Frames Appliances
Clean Clothing/Linens
Clean Carpeting Curtains Intact Furniture Shelving Art Cinder Blocks
Unused Detergent Magazines Dishes/Silverware Plants Plant Holders
Luggage/Backpacks
Toys and Sports Equipment
Hangers
Wood-All Types
Refrigerators
Coolers
Science Equipment
Posters/Pictures or Frames, CDs, Closet Organizers
Electric Components
Unwanted Change
Clean/Mattresses/Pads Tapes Computer Media, Anything Reusable

Plan ahead. Ninety or more percent of waste is recyclable or reusable. Less trash means less mess, less waste and helps local people in need. If you have furniture in good condition call APAC at 797-2608 and they will pick it up from your residence hall room, house or apartment. All other good recyclables should be placed in central reusable collection sites. During finals week there will be food collection sites set up in the lobbies of campus residence halls and on the ground floor of New South Buildings just as was done at the end of Fall Quarter. We collected about two tons of food to donate to those in need then, and expect even more this time. Whatever you do, please don't throw out unopened food.

We recommend that you use the sites early and take home what you don't need on Memorial Day Weekend if you are going home.

We will be recycling all carpeting this year. Please roll up your carpet and place it next to the recycling and dumpster areas.

Off campus neighborhoods will also have reusable collection service on their designated trash and recycling collection days. Please utilize these unique and cost saving services. This too will start on the 22nd of May and continue until the 16th of June.

Collection of reusables will also be done by Re-Use Industries (740-698-8200), Albany Tutoring Center (740-698-2464) and Hurricane Mitch Relief (594-9827).

For more info www.physplnt.ohiou.edu/about/recyinfo.html or email newmane@ohio.edu or call 593-0231.

Please help. Recycle and put out reusables and help keep costs down for you, OU and the City of Athens, and help people in need in our local communities and in Honduras.

Thanks and have a great rest of the quarter!

Ed Newman and the Staff at Campus Recycling
