Three Bobcats Earn Honorable Mention Academic All-America

ATHENS, Ohio (April 27, 2000) -- The Ohio wrestling team was recently recognized
among the nation's best academically by the National Wrestling Coaches
Association. The Bobcats' combined grade point average of 3.0561 ranked
10th among all Division I wrestling programs in the country. Ohio finished the regular season with a 15-4-1 record.
Along with the team's overall academic achievement, three
Bobcats were also recognized for their individual academic
achievements. Senior Brad Wright (Fairfield) and juniors Dan Bednar
(Brecksville) and Shane Hartzler (Orrville) was tabbed honorable
mention Academic All-Americans.
Along with their academic achievements, Wright, Bednar and
Hartzler had impressive seasons on the mat as well. Wright went 2-2 at
the NCAA Championships in march after winning the 133-lbs weight class
at the Mid-American Conference Championships. Bednar (197-lbs) also won
his weight class at the MAC Championships, and went 2-2 at the NCAA
tournament. Hartzler (141-lbs) placed second at the MAC Championships
after going 3-2 in the tournament.
Other schools that were ranked in the top 10 include Princeton University,
Stanford, Brown University and Harvard University.
