ATHENS, Ohio (April 20, 2000) -- Ohio softball head coach Roanna Brazier recently
announced the addition of three signees for the 2001 season. Kristie
Howe (Missouri City, Texas), Kiersten Scrima (Olympia, Wash.) and
Georgia Villard (Canton, Ohio) each signed a National Letter of Intent
to enter Ohio University this fall.
Kristie Howe joins the Bobcats from Lawrence E. Elkins High
School in Missouri City, Texas. The right-handed pitcher is a
three-time all-district performer who also plays first base and in the
outfield. This spring, she posted a 10-4 record in 91.1 innings pitched
with a 0.92 ERA and 115 strikeouts. In 1999, she led her squad to the
Regional Semifinals with a 16-4 record and a 0.60 ERA, while compiling
180 strikeouts. She also guided her Missouri City Magic Gold club team
to two state championships and the 1999 U-18 Gold Nationals. The honors
student hopes to major in pre-pharmacy.
"Kristie is a tremendous player and a hard worker," said
Brazier. "She brings strength and stature to our battery which will
complement our veteran core pitching staff. Kristie has great control
of the rise ball, her bread 'n' butter pitch. She is an all-around
player who has the versatility to contribute on the mound, in the field
and at the plate."
Kiersten Scrima comes to Ohio from Olympia High School in
Olympia, Wash. The versatile right-hander can play any position in the
infield and the outfield, as well as catcher. Last season, she batted
.397 with 2 home runs, 9 RBI and 14 runs scored in 63 at-bats. Scrima
is a letterwinner in both softball and basketball. She plans to major
in sports management.
"Kiersten will fill the much-needed role of utility player for
us," explained Brazier. "I am looking for her to play in the infield
and outfield next year and I expect her to add to the team's depth. Her
attitude is going to add a lot of excitement to the team."
Georgia Villard is a senior at McKinley High School in Canton.
The right-handed catcher batted .426 as a junior last season with 18
RBI and 10 runs scored in 86 at-bats. She posted an impressive .535
on-base percentage with an .888 slugging percentage. Villard plans to
study nursing at Ohio.
"I'm looking forward to adding Georgia's power to our lineup,"
said Brazier. "I expect her to develop into a strong leader behind the
plate. She will be able to compete for time at catcher which will be
vacated with the graduation of All-MAC performer Jen Sewell."
