ATHENS, Ohio (April 19, 2000) -- Ohio University's College of Communication kicks off its 32nd annual
Communication Week with a presentation by college alumnus Brian O'Neal, vice president of children's
programming and special projects for CBS entertainment, at 7 p.m. Sunday, April 30, in Anderson
Auditorium in Scripps Hall. O'Neal will discuss the effects of partnerships in the communication
industry, such as Time Warner's merger with America Online, and answer questions about the industry.
Communication Week celebrates the five schools of the College of Communication and encourages
student interaction with leaders in the communication field. Each day of the weeklong event focuses on a
particular school in the college: Monday, May 1, Visual Communication Day; Tuesday, May 2,
Communication Systems Management Day; Wednesday, May 3, Telecommunications Day; Thursday,
May 4, Journalism Day; Friday, May 5, Interpersonal Communication Day. Highlights of the week
include:
The one-hour documentary "Wandering Souls: Tet '68 Remembered" will be shown at 7 p.m.
Monday, May 1, at Templeton-Blackburn Alumni Memorial Auditorium as part of the International Film
and Video Festival. The film chronicles a journey of discovery and healing for Athens resident Dave
Garrod and five members of his 25th Infantry Division, who returned to Vietnam 30 years after their
military service there. Directed and produced by staff of the college's Telecommunications Center, it's
the first U.S. production made in cooperation with Vietnam Television. Garrod and other members of
division will be present for a discussion.
The second annual Communication Career Connection runs from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, May 3, in
Baker Center Ballroom. Communication professionals from a variety of fields will be available to discuss
career options with students. Representatives from companies such as Disney and CNN will be on
campus recruiting for internship and job openings.
Steve Mackall, a successful writer, voice talent, stand-up comic, songwriter and producer who has
worked for NBC Productions and voiced parts for the animated films "All Dogs Go To Heaven" and
"The Secret of Nihm 2" will perform at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 3, in a location to be announced, as part of
Telecommunications Day.
