ATHENS, Ohio (April 11, 2000) -- The Ohio baseball team took two games from Ball State in Muncie, Ind.
on Monday, April 10. The Bobcats won the first game, 1-0, in nine innings and used a seventh
inning rally to defeat the Cardinals, 5-4, in the second game of the Mid-American Conference
doubleheader.
Ohio senior Tony Schiml (Dayton, Ohio) pitched his best game of the season in the first game. He
went nine innings and allowed just three hits with no runs. He also posted eleven strikeouts in the
1-0 win. Schiml is now 3-2 with a 5.27 ERA, good for third on the team. The Bobcats scored its
only run after sophomore Mike Arbinger (Toledo, Ohio) hit a single to right field driving in junior
Ryan Kyes (White Lake, Mich.).
It took a seventh-inning rally for Ohio to win the second game over Ball State. The Cardinals
scored two runs in the third inning and one run in the fourth and sixth innings to take a 4-1 lead
over the Bobcats. Then in the seventh inning, Ohio had the bases loaded with Arbinger at the plate.
Arbinger walked, which drove in senior Matt Reed (Zanesville, Ohio) to score the final run of the
game.
Ohio is now 5-2 in the MAC with a 15-13-1 overall record. The Bobcats will host Duquesne in a
non-conference match-up on Wednesday, April 12, at Bob Wren Stadium. The first pitch is slated
for 3:00 pm.
