Contact: Director of Student Activities Anne Lombard, (740) 593-4025

ATHENS, Ohio (March 31, 2000) -- Ohio University will host the premiere of "28 Days," the latest movie directed by Ohio University alumna Betty Thomas, in Templeton-Blackburn Alumni Memorial Auditorium at 8 p.m. Wednesday, April 5.

Betty Thomas directed and co-produced the Columbia House film, a dramatic comedy starring Sandra Bullock. Bullock plays a successful New York writer living in the fast lane who gets drunk with her boyfriend, borrows her sister's wedding limo and earns herself a stay in court-ordered rehabilitation.

Thomas, who graduated with a bachelor's degree in fine arts in 1969, also is known for her Emmy-winning role as Lucy Bates on the 1980s television drama "Hill Street Blues." Other movies she has directed include "Private Parts," "The Brady Bunch Movie," "Can't Hardly Wait," "Dr. Doolittle," the HBO film "The Late Shift" and the HBO comedy series "Dream On." She currently has a deal with Sony Pictures Entertainment/Columbia to direct and produce nine other films.

"28 Days" opens nationwide April 7. Admission to the premiere is free.
