Russ College of Engineering and Technology Hosts Annual Conference

ATHENS, Ohio (April 4, 2000) -- Electrical Engineering students at the Russ College of Engineering and Technology will host the annual Region II Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) Conference on Friday, April 7 and Saturday, April 8. Over 100 people from Region 11 which includes Ohio, Pennsylvania, Deleware, Washington D.C. Maryland and West Virginia are expected to attend.

The IEEE, the worlds largest technical/professional organization has a worldwide membership of 350,000 and publishes one third of the world's electrical technology literature.The purpose of the conference is for leadership development and to hold the annual robotics competition. Dr. Richard Gowen, President of the South Dakota School of Mining and Technology and the 1984 IEEE president will be the keynote speaker on Saturday morning.

Autonomous robots, designed by students, will compete to determine their ability to capture 41 objects(40 stainless steel balls and a single brass ball) positioned on a grid. This Design Competition will take place in Irvine Hall on Saturday April 8 beginning at 1:30 p.m.
