Athens, Ohio (April 7, 2000) -- Ohio University's Classified Senate has named Rebecca
Simons of Amesville as its Employee of the Month for February and Greg
Weinfurtner of Athens as the Employee of the Month for March.
Simons, a two-year employee, is a secretarial associate in the
Office of Summer Sessions. Director of Summer Sessions Pam Brown said the office
"would be lost without Becky. We rely on her heavily. She makes working in
this office a pleasant experience."
Simons said she gets a great sense of accomplishment in using her
knowledge to better the university and help students.
Weinfurtner, a 15-year university employee, is an electronic design
specialist in the Department of Modern Languages. He was nominated by
Assistant Professor of Modern Languages Jorg Waltje, who praised
Weinfurtner as being dependable, creative and "beloved among faculty,
students, and lab assistants alike. Greg takes great pride in
trouble-shooting and fixing problems with very little turnaround time, so
that faculty can go about their duties without fear of being failed by
technology."
Simons and Weinfurtner were presented with their awards and received
framed certificates at the March meeting of Classified Senate.
The monthly award is based on nominations submitted by members of the
university community for any nonbargaining unit classified employee who is
setting standards for excellence and innovation by promoting unity,
community, continuity and visibility.
