Ohio Rally Falls Short in 17-15 Loss to Gannon

ATHENS, Ohio (April 2, 2000) -- Ohio rallied from a 14-8 deficit to tie Gannon, before falling to the third-ranked team in Division II, 17-15, in women's lacrosse action on Sunday at Ohio's AstorTurf Field. Bobcat freshman Alyssa Trocher (Ellicott City, Md.), the leading freshman scorer in Division I, matched a career high with seven goals in the game.

Early in the first half, the teams traded goals to a 3-3 tie before five different Lady Knights scored in a 6-0 Gannon run. The Bobcats added a pair of Trocher goals to bring the halftime score to 10-5.

In the second half, the teams traded goals again as Gannon held an14-8 lead with 23 minutes remaining. Ohio opened up a 7-1 run that was capped by a Trocher goal at 4:31 to even the score 15-15. But Gannon's offense stepped up down the stretch and reclaimed the lead when Carrie DiBasio scored the game winner on a pass from Jessica Lee with 2:15. Lauren Schweiger clinched the victory for the Lady Knights, scoring with six seconds remaining.

Junior goalkeeper Katie Borokhovich (Powell) played her eighth complete game, posting 10 saves.

The Bobcats (3-5) close out a three-game homestand against Davidson next Sunday, April 9 at 1 p.m. Gannon (4-1-1) plays host to Oberlin on Wednesday, April 5 at 4:30 p.m.
