ATHENS, Ohio (April 2, 2000) -- The Ohio baseball team swept Western Michigan today in a
Mid-American Conference match-up at Bob Wren Stadium. Ohio used nine strikeouts thrown by
Bobcat junior Denny McGee to defeat Western Michigan, 5-1, in the first game. Sophomore Cory
Keylor hit a three-run homer in the third inning of game two to clinch the series sweep over the
Broncos.
Ohio junior Denny McGee retired twelve straight batters, including five strikeouts in a row. Along
with nine strikeouts, he allowed just one run on five hits. McGee is now 3-1 on the season and has
a 3.94 ERA.
Sophomores Cory Keylor and Mike Arbinger, and senior Jeff Rook also highlighted the first game
for the Bobcats. Keylor went two for three at the plate hitting a triple to center field in the third
inning and a double to left field in the bottom of the fifth. Arbinger hit his first home run of the
season to center field, while Rook went three for three including an RBI.
In game two, Keylor hit a three-run homer to right field in the third inning put Ohio up, 3-2, over
Western Michigan. Sophomore Scott Brownlee scored the other Bobcat run. Other highlights
included junior pitcher Andrew See, who in seven innings, allowed three runs on eight hits and
struck out four batters.
The Bobcats record improves to 10-12-1 overall and are 3-1 in the MAC. Ohio will host a
non-conference game at Bob Wren Stadium against Xavier on Wednesday, April 5 at 3:00 p.m.
