Ohio University Makes Summer Learning Convenient and Affordable

ATHENS, Ohio (March 30, 2000) -- Whether you are starting a degree or completing one, earning a teaching certificate, learning a new language, updating professional skills, catching up on courses or getting a head start on them, Ohio University is the place to be this summer.

Ohio University Summer Sessions registration is ongoing now through June 12. The schedule of classes and highlights about special, summer-only classes and programs can be found on the Web at www.ohiou.edu/summer or in the Summer Sessions Bulletin & Schedule of Classes. You can request a copy of the bulletin by calling the Office of Summer Sessions at (740) 593-2583 or 1-888-551-6446. Visiting students should complete an application form which can be printed from our Web site or found in our bulletin to register. Continuing Ohio students may register via TRIPS. To use TRIPS, call 597-3006 or 1-800-759-3006.

There are two five-week sessions scheduled for June 12-July 14 and July 17-August 18. During this period, Ohio University will offer more than 1,000 undergraduate and graduate courses, programs and workshops on the Athens campus and the five regional campuses. In addition, the university offers more than 100 summer-only special program and unique course opportunities -- all chosen to meet students' needs as well as Ohio University's high standards. During the summer only, Ohio University offers open admission to anyone and encourages enrolment to those who want to gain fresh ideas, learn new skills, and grown in knowledge. Ohio University has offered summer sessions classes since 1892.

Summer Sessions offers many benefits:

  1. a chance to save money! Students can register for up to 20 hours during both sessions combined and pay the same tuition and fees that were in effect spring quarter. Students may be able to graduate in less than four or five years and save money;
  2. smaller classes. Most summer classes are smaller, encouraging close interaction among students and professor, creating a more relaxed atmosphere that promotes both learning and enjoyment;
  3. distinguished Ohio University faculty members. More than 80% of the summer faculty are full-time Ohio University professors;
  4. a variety of convenient formats. Choose from a wide variety of on-line, evening, weekend, and one-two-or three week specialized topic courses in communications, the arts, business, education, and the sciences;
  5. plenty of affordable campus housing. Comfortable rooms are available, with comfortable prices, too;
  6. a friendly, diverse, and active student community. More than 6,000 students attend Summer Sessions in Athens, offering you plenty of opportunities to find study companions and make new friends.

This summer we're pleased to offer Summer On-Line, featuring 25 on-line classes via the world wide web. Summer On-Line at Ohio University means ignoring the clock -- come to the on-line class whenever it's convenient for you and receive quality education without giving up quality time. Another benefit is small class sizes with one-on-one instructor guidance and personalized communication.
