Geib Named MAC Scholar Athlete Of The Week

CLEVELAND, Ohio (March 28, 2000) -- Ohio's Katie Geib (track and field) and Kent's Demetric Shaw (basketball) were named the MAC Scholar Athletes of the Week on March 28, 2000.

Geib (Sr., 3.89, engineering, Erie, Pa.) won two events at Navy last weekend, winning the 800-meter dash (2:14.90) and tying for first place in the high jump (1.64 meters). Ohio placed second in the track meet behind Navy.

Shaw (So., 3.70, chemistry, Fort Worth, Texas) collected 12 points and six rebounds in an 81-67 victory over Villanova on March 20. He scored 15 points and five rebounds in an 81-74 loss to Penn State on March 22. Shaw averaged 13.5 points, 5.5 rebounds and 1.5 steals in the two games and was 9-of-15 from the field and 7-of-9 from the free throw line.

The honor is presented to a MAC male and female student-athlete who has a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or better and performs well during that week's competition. The winners are selected by one of the conference's faculty athletic representatives.
