ATHENS, Ohio (March 23, 2000) -- The Ohio baseball team split a double-header with Dayton today at Bob Wren Stadium
on March 22. The Bobcats dropped its first game against the Flyers, 5-3, but came back to win the second game,
6-2.
In the first game, senior Jeff Rook slammed his fifth home run of the season into right field in the second inning to
give the Bobcats a 1-0 lead. Dayton tied the score 1-1 on a single by Aaron Reesh in the fourth inning. Then in the
sixth inning, Ohio responded with runs by senior Brian Wingfeld and sophomore Scott Brownlee. The Flyers
rallied with four runs in the final two innings to win the game.
Ohio scored three runs in the second inning of the second game to take a 4-2 lead over Dayton. In the fifth inning,
Wingfeld tripled to center field to bring in junior Chuck Lombardy. Wingfeld finished the scoring for the Bobcats
when he scored on junior Jeremy Johnson's sacrifice fly to left field.
Rook was impressive on the mound, pitching six full innings and allowing only two runs, four hits and three
strikeouts. Junior Adam Svala recorded the save for Ohio.
The Bobcats will host double-headers on March 25-26 against the Toledo Rockets starting at 1:00 p.m. at Bob
Wren Stadium.
