You're Invited to Showcase 2000

ATHENS, Ohio -- All members of the Ohio University and Athens communities are invited to Showcase 2000, which will be held on May 18th from 11:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. at Nelson Commons. Plan to stop by to see and bid on the hand-crafted items, photographs, paintings, etc., that were created by Ohio University faculty, administrators, bargaining unit, and non-bargaining unit employees.

Lunch (6-inch sub, chips, and soda) will be available for $3.00, as well as soup for $.75 cents a bowl. Live entertainment will begin at 11:30, and is scheduled as follows:

11:30 "No Hope for Fame" John Dillon, Mike Bila, and John Zyla
1:00 "Barely Making It" Greg Coen, Karen Deardorff, Ron Mash, and Frank Stoufflebean
3:00 "Direct Attention" Shannon Scott and Friends

A limited number of parking spaces will be reserved in the lot across from Nelson for those attending the Showcase.

In previous years, items were sold through a public auction. This year, however, we are going to use a Bobcat Auction. Bidders in the Bobcat Auction purchase a desired number of tickets in one or more of the following pricing levels:

$1 tickets -- one to four for $1 each, or six for $5
$5 tickets -- one to four for $5 each, or five for $20
$10 tickets -- one to ten for $10 each, or eleven for $100

Bidders place one or more tickets (of the appropriate pricing level) into a container located in front of the donated item(s) they are interested in obtaining. At the end of the Showcase, one ticket will be drawn per item to select the winners. If your ticket is drawn for a particular item, YOU WIN !!! (bidders do not have to be present to win.)

Participants have submitted items for one of three categories:

  • for display only
  • donation for Bobcat Auction
  • on a 60/40 consignment (60% to go to artist, 40% to the exhibition)

All proceeds from items donated or sold on consignment will be used to endow a scholarship for Ohio University employees or their dependents enrolled at the Athens Campus and who have earned 45 credit hours or more. Scholarships will be awarded by the Office of Student Financial Aid and Scholarships.

Examples of items donated at previous showcases include:

Knitting

Beadwork

Quilts

Ceramics

Watercolors

Wallpaper hanging

Woodworking

Drafting of a Will

Musical performances

Comedy routines

"the Giant Christmas Elf"

Showcase 2000 began several years ago to bring all of the employees of Ohio University together in a common effort, and give each of us an opportunity to share something more than our workday selves with the university and Athens communities. The Showcase provides an opportunity for employees to share their artistic abilities, creative talents, and more, including singing, dancing, drawing, painting, etc., etc., etc. All are invited and encouraged to participate.
