ATHENS, Ohio (March 18, 2000) -- Ohio senior heavyweight #9 Tim Courtad placed
fifth at the NCAA Wrestling Championships today at the Keil Center in St. Louis, Mo.
He defeated Pennsylvania's #5 Bandele Adeniyi-Bada, 8-3 before dropping his match
against Paul Hynek of Northern Iowa, 6-3. Senior #18 Brad Wright (133 lb) and
junior #19 Dan Bednar (197) were both eliminated in the consolation round.
#9 Tim Courtad won 22 consecutive matches since the regular season before falling
to #1 Brock Lesner of Minnesota at 2:18 of the quarterfinal match of the tournament.
He went on to defeat North Carolina's Matt Kenney and Antonio Garay of Boston College in
consolation play. He then fell to Paul Hynek before defeating Bandele Adeniyi-Bada
to take fifth place in his final match of the championships.
#18 Brad Wright and #19 Dan Bednar both advanced in the first round. Wright decisioned
Wyoming's Corey Hamrick before falling to #2 Cody Sanderson of Iowa State. Wright
defeated Ben Richards of Oregon State, but lost to #10 Rob Loper in consolation play.
After pinning his first opponent, #19 Bednar fell to #1 Mark Muoz of Oklahoma
State. He went on to defeat Northwestern's Matt Huebner before falling to Viktor
Svada of Indiana.
