INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (March 20, 2000) -- Ohio senior Hollie Bonewit (Athens, Oh) earned All-American honors, the first
All-American in five years at Ohio, with her 12th-place finish in the 200 breaststroke at the NCAA Women's
Swimming and Diving Championships.
The Championships were held on March 16-18 at the IUPUI Natatorium in Indianapolis, Ind.
Bonewit and teammate, sophomore Kim van Selm (Durban, So. Africa), posted some of their personal best times at
the Championships. Bonewit took the 12th-place finish in the 200 breaststroke event with a time of 2:28.95. She
also had times of 4:16.44 in the 400 freestyle and 4:48.68 in the 400 individual medley. Van Selm posted times of
4:16.46 in the 400 freestyle and 2:03.21 in the 200 freestyle.
Bonewit and van Selm qualified for the NCAA tournament during the Mid-American Conference Championships.
Bonewit won the 200 breaststroke with a conference record-breaking time of 2:14.19 at the MAC tournament,
which automatically qualified her for the NCAA Championships. Van Selm was named MAC Swimmer of the
Year after winning three individual championships, including the 200 freestyle with a MAC-best time of 1:48.05.
The NCAA Championships top off an impressive season, which saw the Ohio women's swimming and diving team
win their first Mid-American Conference Championship since 1995.
