Ohio Lacrosse Tops Canisius, 19-10, in Home Opener

ATHENS, Ohio (March 19, 2000) -- Ohio freshman Alyssa Trocher (Ellicott City, Md.) exploded for seven goals to pace Ohio to a 19-10 victory over Canisius in college women's lacrosse action on Sunday at Ohio's AstroTurf Field.

The Bobcats opened up a 2-0 lead in the first four minutes, but the Golden Griffins evened the score with a pair of goals in a 57-second span. The teams traded goals and were knotted again at 3-3 before Ohio scored six of the last seven goals in the first half. The Bobcats scored four-straight goals to end the half and then opened the second half with a pair of scores, building an 11-4 advantage 10 minutes into the final session. Trocher was involved in four goals on that six-goal run, with three goals and one assist

In the second half, Canisius went on a 3-1 run to pull within 12-7 with just under 11 minutes remaining. But the Bobcats responded with three unanswered goals by Trocher, Katie Dempsey (Rockville, Md.) and Ashley Boccia (Salisbury, Md.).

Boccia finished with three goals, while Dempsey, Brooke Bowersock (Worthington), Ashley Bauer (Shaker Heights) and Lindsey Hart (Vineland, Ontario) each scored a pair of goals. Hart and Trocher each added three assists to lead the team.

Junior goalkeeper Katie Borokhovich (Powell) played her third-straight complete game, posting 13 saves on 30 total shots faced. Courtney Greenway tended goal for Canisius with 14 saves.

Ohio improves to 1-2 on the season, while Canisius falls to 0-4.

The Bobcats kick off a three-game road trip with a visit to Howard on Tuesday at 3 p.m. Ohio faces Stanford in a neutral site game at Annapolis High School on Thursday, March 23 at 4 p.m. before facing Mt. St. Mary's on Friday at 3:30 p.m.
