Ohio Football Holds Green and White Scrimmage
ATHENS, Ohio -- (February 16, 2000)
The Ohio football team has been getting an early start on this year's spring practice. And that
work will culminate this weekend with the annual Green and White Scrimmage. The controlled
scrimmage will be held Saturday, March 11 at Peden Stadium. Kick-off is at 11 a.m. and the public
is invited to come out and preview next year's team.
"Our players are excited to be out practicing," said Head Coach Jim Grobe. "They were a little apprehensive at first
about the early start (February 16) and the cool weather, but they are having fun right now. It's just good to get back into the
swing of things again."
Coach Grobe also explained how important spring practice is, especially to the redshirt freshmen. "We have 20
players who red-shirted last year and this lets us a good look at them. They were on the scout team last year so they
didn't get to learn our schemes and our system. We can really work on teaching them our offense and defense and
getting them into the mix."
Coach Grobe enters his sixth season at the Bobcat helm, ranking fifth on Ohio's all-time coaching victories chart.
He guided the 1999 squad to its fourth-straight winning MAC season. It marks the first time in over 30 years that
Ohio recorded winning MAC seasons in four consecutive years.
Ohio opens the 2000 season at Iowa State on Thursday, August 31.
