ATHENS, Ohio -- (March 9, 2000) The First International Conference of Centers for Overseas Chinese
Studies will be held at Ohio Universityıs YouBao Shao Overseas Chinese Documentation and
Research Center in Alden Library March 24-25.
The conference will promote international cooperation with an emphasis on identifying
and implementing cooperative projects, including resource collection and sharing, the
publication of a journal and newsletter and the formation of a worldwide coordinating body
on overseas Chinese studies.
The conference brings together researchers from institutions, library collections,
academic societies, university programs and museums. Participants from the United
States, Japan, Singapore, the Philippines, Hong Kong, Taiwan and the Peoples Republic
of China are expected to attend.
