ATHENS,
Ohio -- (March 4, 2000)
The Ohio hockey team had no idea of what they were in for when they started play
against Eastern Michigan Saturday evening. The Bobcats would end up falling to the
Eagles of Eastern Michigan 2-1 in double overtime of the first semifinal of the ACHA
tournament.
The loss will put the Ohio team in the consolation game against Michigan-Dearborn,
which lost a 2-1 overtime game to Penn State. Penn State and Eastern Michigan will
play for the national title.
Ohio coach Craig McCarthy hope his team can get up for the third place challenge.
The lack of chances in the overtime period disappointed Coach McCarthy.
"We just didn't get the chances in overtime that I would have liked. We just didn't
have the horses in the fourth and fifth periods," McCarthy said.
Ohio did receive a valiant effort from senior captain Marcus Marazon, who had looked
doubtful to play after suffering a first degree shoulder separation in the game against
Delaware.
The lone goal for the Bobcats was scored by Sean Kass in the second period off an
assist from Jack Pepper. That would be the only one of the Cats 27 shots that found
the net against the Eagles. Goal tender Charlie Pulley pitched a shut out against the
Bobcats as he was pulled due to as lost contact during the score by Ohio.
Scott Walls lived up to his reputation as well as he faced 49 shots and only let two
find the net. Walls came up big on numerous occasions keeping the Cats in the game
through all five periods.
said that he is extremely impressed with the overall strength of the CSCHL
teams in the tournament. With Michigan-Dearborn, Eastern Michigan, as well as Ohio
all advancing to the final four of the tournament, it shows how strong the CSCHL really
is.
The Ohio team will play at 2 p.m. EST (1 p.m. CST) against Michigan-Dearborn. The
game will be broadcast live on WOUB AM-1340 as well as over the Internet at
