ATHENS,
Ohio -- (March 2, 2000) Ohio University School of Dance students will perform Distinguished
Professor of Dance Gladys Bailin's final choreographed piece for the
university during the Winter Dance Concert beginning March 2. Bailin, a
member of the faculty since 1972 and director of the School of Dance from
1983 to 1995, is retiring at the end of winter quarter.
Bailin has choreographed a piece called "Give My Regards" for the concert,
which is 8 p.m. March 2 through 4, with a matinee at 2 p.m. March 4, in
Kantner Hall's Elizabeth Baker Theatre. General admission is $7, and the
matinee is $6. Tickets can be purchased by calling the Fine Arts Ticket
Office in Kantner Hall at 593-4800 or are available at the door before the
performances.
Bailin came to Athens from New York City, where she was active in the
dance field as a performer, choreographer and teacher. An original member
of the Nikolais Dance Theater and Murray Louis Dance Company and later a
member of the Don Redlich Dance Company, she toured nationally and
internationally from 1955 to 1970. She has received numerous fellowships
and awards, including the Distinguished Professor Award from Ohio
University. She is a founding member of the Athens Area Arts Alliance.
