UOMC Nelsonville holds community open house Oct. 26

ATHENS, Ohio -- The University Osteopathic Medical Center (UOMC) will hold a community open house on Saturday, Oct. 26 -- National Make A Difference Day -- from 10 a.m.to noon in celebration of the opening of their newest facility located at 294 Harper Street in Nelsonville.

On Oct. 1, the UOMC consolidated the services from two satellite clinics in Nelsonville -- at Nelsonville Square and Doctors Hospital, Nelsonville -- into a newly-renovated, more spacious facility on Harper Street.

The family physicians and certified family nurse practitioner from the UOMC Nelsonville Square clinic and the OB/GYN, geriatrics, internal medicine specialists at the UOMC Doctors Hospital, Nelsonville now practice in the 2,500 square foot Harper Street facility.

According to Debbie White, RN, unit supervisor for the UOMC Harper Street clinic, "We want to invite the community to personally see our new facility which features 10 patient examination rooms, a room designated for minor office procedures, a room to perform routine office lab tests, patient waiting areas, arrival and exit patient reception areas and areas designated for staff," said White.

"Best of all, we are sure patients will enjoy the modern, bright and cheery decor in the new clinic and the comfort and convenience offered in spacious waiting areas and ample parking, as well as handicapped accessibility."

White notes that since Saturday is National Make A Difference Day as well as National Osteopathic Medicine Week the staff wanted to provide a community service by offering healthcare screenings - blood pressure, blood glucose and cholesterol - provided by OU-COM's Community Service Program Health Adult Project on their mobile van. A donation of $5 for the screening tests is requested to cover supply costs. Low cost flu shots will also be offered for high risk community members. A $6 donation is requested for the flu shot unless the patient is covered by Medicare and brings his or her card. Also offered at the Open House will be tours, balloons for the kids and light refreshments.
