ATHENS, Ohio -- Starting on Oct. 1, the WOUB Radio Network will make a major change in its musical format. "Crossing Boundaries," a contemporary, roots-based music format featuring "cool music for grown-ups," will be replacing the evening "Jazz, Blues and Swing." The program airs from 7 to 10 p.m. and will continue to be hosted by FM Radio Program Manager Rusty Smith.
"Crossing Boundaries" brings a new variety of music to adult listeners throughout the 37+ county coverage area the WOUB FM Radio Network reaches. The program is roots music that extends from a wide variety of artists from Bonnie Raitt and Eric Bibb to David Byrne and Peter Gabriel.
"'Crossing Boundaries' features music from the latter half of the 20th century," says Smith. "Judging from the popularity of programs like 'Below the Salt,' 'Audiosyncrasies,' and 'Live from the Fur Peace Ranch,' 'Crossing Boundaries' will complement the WOUB FM Radio format better."
The change in format also brings with it a change to the WOUB FM Radio schedule as a whole. "World Cafe" will begin one hour earlier, immediately following "Crossing Boundaries." "Live from the Fur Peace Ranch" is now a weekly series, airing Friday nights from 7 to 8 p.m. Also new to the schedule, is NPR's "Wait, Wait...Don't Tell Me," a wacky and whip-smart approach to the week's news and newsmakers, an oddly informative news quiz show that airs on Saturday afternoons at noon to 1 p.m.
The Ohio University Telecommunications Center, a unit of the College of Communication, operates two television stations, WOUB-TV/Channel 20 in Athens and WOUC-TV/Channel 44 in Cambridge, one cable channel, WOUB II, and six radio stations, WOUB-1340 AM, WOUB-91.3 FM, WOUC-89.1 FM, WOUH-91.9 FM, WOUL-89.1 FM and WOUZ-90.1 FM.
