ATHENS, Ohio -- The Ohio Educational Telecommunications (OET) Network Commission recently awarded WOUB Radio a first place honorin the Community Information category and an honorable mention in the Arts & Cultural Affairs category.
Live from Studio B, produced by AM Radio Program Manager Bryan Gibson, won in the Community Information category for itsongoing series about the art of conversation. The winning entry features Jackie Wolf, Ph.D., and registered nurse Sarah McGrew,discussing state budget cuts that have eliminated the Ohio University College of Osteopathic Medicine's arthritis program andthe consequences for the public.
Since its premiere in March 1996, Live from Studio B has presented hundreds of liveconversations with people from a crosssection of Athens and southeastern Ohio.
"A Christmas Carol" by Charles Dickens, produced by Senior Web Developer David Kurz and directed by Karen Chan, earned anhonorable mention in the Arts & Cultural Affairs category.
This dramatic reading first aired on Christmas Day 2002, andfeatured Joe Balding as Scrooge. It was originally developed for Wired for Books as an unabridged version of the Dickens' storyas a radio theater style reading adding both sound effects and music. The OET awards ceremony was held on Monday, June 2 at the statehouse in Columbus. OET serves to promote the growth anddevelopment of telecommunications in Ohio.
The Ohio University Telecommunications Center, a unit of the College of Communication, operates two television stations: WOUB-TV/Channel 20 in Athens and WOUC-TV/Channel 44 in Cambridge, one cable channel WOUB II and six radio stations: WOUB-1340 AM, WOUB-91.3 FM, WOUC-89.1 FM, WOUH-91.9 FM, WOUL-89.1 FM and WOUZ-90.1 FM.
