ATHENS, Ohio -- University Program Council's third annual Mom's Walk for a Cure will take place on Saturday, May 3, at 10 a.m. -- Moms Weekend at Ohio University. The walk, a fundraiser for the National Breast Cancer Foundation, is five kilometers in distance and will guide participants through the scenic Ohio University campus.
Participants can walk, run, stroll or inline skate their way to the finish line. The walk will head out of the Ping Center and follow a path though the West Green and back along the Hocking River returning to the Ping Center.
"Every year breast cancer affects moms and daughters; it doesn't need a special weekend," said Kate Whaley, UPC special events co-chair. "It is our hope that people will help fight this disease by joining in our march."
Pre-registration will be held Wednesday and Thursday, April 30 and May 1, in the Baker University Center lobby from noon until 2 p.m. Pre-registration will continue on Friday, May 2, at College Gate and in the Baker Center lobby from 2 until 5 p.m. Registration will also be available the day of the walk from 9 to 10 a.m. at the Ping Center.
The $12.50 registration fee covers a t-shirt and a donation to the National Breast Cancer Foundation. All proceeds from this event will be given to the foundation.
