ATHENS, Ohio -- Ohio University students working at WOUB-TV have been honored by the Ohio Valley Chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences (NATAS). The students earned a NATAS Midwestern Regional Emmy Award for "Gridiron Glory: Season Finale 2002."
NATAS will present the Student Production Award at its 39th Annual Midwestern Regional Emmy Awards ceremony on Saturday, April 26, at the United States Air Force Museum in Dayton, Ohio.
Students being honored for "Gridiron Glory" are Bryce Anslinger, host; Ken Laschinger, producer; Kyle Stichtenoth, supervising producer; and Jill Rader and Ellen Sagun, directors. Also honored are WOUB staff; Michael Rodriguez, executive producer and Mike Toriello, graphics and animation.
"The judges were impressed by the quality of work submitted by all of the students this year," said Cherie Housley, president of the Ohio Valley Chapter of NATAS.
The Ohio Valley Chapter of NATAS includes 13 television markets in Ohio, Indiana, Kentucky and West Virginia. This year, there were 548 entries from over 40 organizations. NATAS recognizes achievements in television by presenting annual awards of merit intended to inspire the continued pursuit of excellence in the television industry and to focus public attention on outstanding cultural, educational, technological, entertainment, news and informational achievements in television.
The Ohio University Telecommunications Center, a unit of the College of Communication, operates two television stations: WOUB-TV/Channel 20 in Athens and WOUC-TV/Channel 44 in Cambridge; one cable channel: WOUB II; and six radio stations: WOUB-1340 AM, WOUB-91.3 FM, WOUC-89.1 FM, WOUH-91.9 FM, WOUL-89.1 FM and WOUZ-90.1 FM. The Center, a trusted community resource, uses the power of noncommercial television, radio and other media, such as the World Wide Web, to enrich the lives of children and adults in southeastern Ohio, western West Virginia, and eastern Kentucky through quality programs and educational services that inform, enlighten, inspire, and entertain.
