ATHENS, Ohio -- Ohio University officials today confirmed that three students were among the victims of a fatal house fire in Columbus April 13. All three women were members of Alpha Gamma Delta sorority and lived in the chapter house at 14 University Terrace in Athens.
The students were identified as Erin DeMarco, Andrea K. Dennis and Christine Wilson.
DeMarco, 19, was a sophomore majoring in marketing in the College of Business. She was from Canton, Ohio.
Dennis, 20, was from Cincinnati. She was a junior in the E.W. Scripps School of Journalism in the College of Communications, where she was studying journalism and advertising management.
Christine Wilson, 19, was a sophomore from Dublin, Ohio. She was studying retail merchandising in the College of Health and Human Services.
"This is a terrible tragedy, and our sympathy and thoughts and prayers go out to the parents and to the families of these young women as well as to their friends on campus," said Ohio University President Robert Glidden.
"This kind of tragedy could happen anywhere. We appreciate the assistance of Ohio State officials and the City of Columbus for their support and cooperation in the immediate aftermath of this tragedy."
Ohio University Dean of Students Terry Hogan said members of the sorority are preparing a memorial service, and that details will be announced on the university's Web site at www.ohio.edu as soon as arrangements are final.
