ATHENS, Ohio -- Nearly a dozen faculty poster presentations, with topics as diverse as mathematics for young children, isokinetic muscle actions, bereavement, hearing aids and online shopping, will be featured at the College of Health and Human Services Faculty Showcase on Friday, May 2.
The poster session begins at noon and will be followed by Don Fucci's presentation, "Ten important points for building a successful research career" at 2 p.m. in Grover E304. A panel discussion on building a research career will follow the presentation.
Fucci's presentation will be based on his successful 35-year research career in the field of hearing and speech language sciences and will feature his list of 10-12 things on which a successful research career hinges.
Fucci is a professor in the School of Hearing, Speech and Language Sciences and was recently named a University Professor for academic year 2003-2004, his second recognition. His first University Professor award was in 1983-84.
The ensuing panel discussion will include topics such as: How does one, as a pre-tenured faculty member or as a mid-career faculty member, go about building a research career? Are there starlight paths? How does one minimize the impediments and harness the resources?
Gene Geist, assistant professor in the School of Human and Consumer Sciences; Sharon Denham, associate professor in the School of Nursing; Gary Chleboun, associate professor in the School of Physical Therapy; and Brooke Hallowell, associate professor in the School of Hearing, Speech and Language Sciences, will sit on the panel.
The poster session will be held from noon to 2 p.m. on the second and third floor of Grover Center near the stairway landing and is open to the public. Fucci's presentation begins at 2 p.m. in Grover E304; it and the panel discussion also are open to the public.
