ATHENS, Ohio -- The Ohio University community is deeply saddened by the tragic shooting that involved two Ohio University students early Sunday morning. The incident took place off-campus in the parking lot of the University Commons apartment complex on Shafer St. in Athens.
The incident left Ohio University senior business marketing major Terris Ross, 23, of Fremont, Ohio, deceased and junior political science major Nyeree A. Mays, 21, of East Cleveland, Ohio, injured. Mays was originally taken to O'Bleness Memorial Hospital in Athens, Ohio, before being taken to Grant Medical Center in Columbus, Ohio, for treatment.
"We are all saddened by the loss of Terris Ross and our thoughts and prayers go out to his family and friends," Ohio University Dean of Students Terrence Hogan said. "He was well-liked on campus and his death has come as quite a shock to all of us."
Hogan said he expects the funeral plans to be confirmed in the next couple of days and added that the university will assist students who wish to attend.
The Athens Police Department, Athens County Prosecutor's Office and the Athens County Coroner's Office are conducting an investigation. Any inquiries about the investigation should be directed to those agencies.
