The ACHA, founded in 1991, held its first national tournament at Penn State University. Penn State had been the National Champions for the past three years. This is Ohio's third time hosting the Division 1 tournament and held the Championship title for the 1994-1995, 1995-1996 and 1996-1997 seasons.
Another point of interest is that the tournament director, Marcus Marazon has a strong history in hockey. He is currently the faculty advisor to the Ohio Hockey team and also the interim director of Bird Ice Arena. Marcus was a member of the 1996 and 1997 Ohio Hockey National Championship team and also played in the Athens Youth Minor Hockey League.
To accommodate guest parking for this event, lot 93 (the lot directly in front of the covered tennis court) will be cleared (towed) and barricaded Wednesday, Feb. 26, at 7:30 a.m. Hockey guests can purchase parking in lot 93 and will be issued a special parking permit.
