New student cohort for Education Ph.D. to begin this fall

ATHENS, Ohio -- A new cycle of Ohio University's Executive Ph.D. Program in Higher Education is scheduled to begin in the fall. It will be the eighth cycle for the program, which has operated continuously since 1983 and is geared toward the working administrator or faculty member.

College and university presidents, vice presidents and deans are among the program's alumni. About 140 students have completed the curriculum, which takes students to the dissertation stage. Eighty percent of students complete the Ph.D.

The program is offered in a cohort fashion, meeting approximately five weekends each academic quarter -- on Friday and Saturday -- for nine terms, including summers. Most of the courses are offered at Ohio University's Athens campus and the others are being offered at Ohio University's regional campuses.

Admission to the program requires current employment in higher education, distinction in undergraduate and graduate studies, standardized test scores, letters of recommendation and formal application.

A series of informational meetings on the program has been scheduled throughout Ohio. The schedule follows:

  • Xavier University, Cincinnati: 4:30 to 5:45 p.m.; Monday, Feb. 17; Room 330, Gallagher Student Center
  • Muskingum Area Technical College, Zanesville: 7 to 8 p.m.; Monday, Feb. 24; Room 432, Campus Student Center
  • Columbus State Community College, Columbus: 9 to 11 a.m.; Friday, Feb. 28; Room 113, Center for Teaching and Technology
  • Columbus State Community College, Columbus: 6 to 8 p.m.; Monday, March 3; Seminar Room A, Nestor Hall
  • Wright State University, Dayton: 7 to 8 p.m.; Tuesday, March 4; Room number to be determined
  • Ohio University, Athens: 7 to 8 p.m.; Thursday, March 6; McCracken Hall
