ATHENS, Ohio -- Following is a list of the major construction projects on campus that were recently completed or ongoing during the 2002-03 academic year:
Avionics Engineering Research Facility
The project is tentatively scheduled to break ground this spring and be completed by February 2004. The two-story avionics research building is part of a $1.5 million project.
Bentley Addition
The new building was constructed west of Bentley Hall and will primarily be used as office space for the history, political sciences, sociology and anthropology and economics departments. The addition is scheduled for completion in October, and renovation has already begun on old Bentley Hall. The total cost of the project is $14.5 million.
Burson House The renovation and expansion of the house will include a three-story addition on the back for the Department of International Studies. The $1 million project is scheduled to begin in March and be completed by December 2003.
Chessa Field The newly renamed varsity soccer field received a new widened grass playing surface, press box, state-of-the-art irrigation and drainage systems, walkways and simulated wrought iron fence. The project cost was $293,871 and was made possible by a $60,000 gift from Ohio University employee Scott Blower.
Golf Course Renovation The Ohio University Golf Course is being redesigned and will now include five holes on the north side of the Hocking River and four on the south side. It will now be a regulation sized par-36 course, which will be safer for people using the bike path adjacent to the course. The project cost is $750,000 and the course is scheduled to reopen in June.
Human Resources/Professional Development Training Center The building was built to provide offices and training space for the offices of Human Resources and Professional Development. It consists of meeting rooms, training space, computer laboratories, conference rooms and offices. The $4.4 million project opened this fall.
Innovation Center The $6 million building will be the new home of the Innovation Center currently located in The Ridges. The center will continue to serve as a small business incubator for local businesses and is due to open in June. The new facility will have more space for offices, research and manufacturing.
Lecture Hall/Classroom Facility The 44,000 square-foot building will be the future home of Board of Trustees meetings and will serve as a meeting place for interactive learning. It will consist of four large state-of-the-art classrooms that seat between 150 to 250 people. The $14.1 million project was made possible by a $5 million gift from Ohio University Alumni Robert and Peggy Walter. Mr. Walter is a member of the Universityıs Board of Trustees and is CEO of Cardinal Health, Inc. The facility is scheduled to complete in October 2003.
Life Sciences Building New building on West Green opened for fall quarter. The building will be used as a research facility for scientists from the College of Arts and Sciences and the College of Osteopathic Medicine. It contains research laboratories and office space. It was a $19 million project.
