ATHENS, Ohio -- The Friends of the Kennedy Museum is sponsoring a Native American jewelry sale Thursday, Dec. 5, through Sunday, Dec. 8, at the Kennedy Museum of Art.
A portion of the proceeds will go toward projects sponsored by the Friends. Good Girl Jewelry at White's Mill and Silver Sun of Albuquerque, NM, are providing the authentic Native American jewelry. The sale features jewelry from various Native American artists and tribes including Navajo, Santo Domingo, San Felipe, Zuni and Hopi. Hours for the sale are Thursday from 4 to 8 p.m., Friday and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sunday from noon to 4 p.m.
Selections from the Kennedy Museum's renowned collection of Native American jewelry and textiles will be on view during the sale in the education galleries.
Also on view will be an exhibition of Contemporary Trade Blankets, running Dec. 5 through Jan. 19. The blankets are produced by Pendleton Woolen Mills (Oregon) and bear designs created by contemporary Native American artists, commissioned by the American Indian College Fund (AICF). Editions of the blankets are available for purchase through the AICF.

Silver Sun of Albuquerque, largely known for exquisite American turquoise and Good Girl Jewelry, a company specializing in Native American jewelry and fetishes are members of the prestigious Indian Arts and Crafts Association (IACA). For the past 20 years IACA has been identifying outstanding emerging and established Indian artisans with the IACA Artist of the Year competition. The association is widely respected in the jewelry community.
Meg and Mike Toomey have owned and operated White's Mill in Athens for 10 years. Good Girl Jewelry has been an integral part of White's Mill ever since Meg Toomey purchased her first Indian jewelry pieces by Zuni artist Robin Banteah five years ago. Silver Sun of Albuquerque, specializes in American turquoise and other semi-precious stones set in Native American handmade jewelry.
The Kennedy Museum of Art is located in historic Lin Hall at The Ridges on the Ohio University campus. Admission and parking are free. Guided tours are available on most Saturdays to provide information about current exhibitions and Lin Hall. Pre-arranged guided tours are available to community and school groups with advance notice.
