ATHENS, Ohio -- Ohio University's Cutler Scholars and Templeton Scholars willco-host a public forum titled, "Affirmative Action: Still Necessary in 2002?"
The event is from 6:30 to 8 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 18, at Baker University CenterBallroom.
Representatives of both scholarship programs will facilitate andparticipate in the discussion, based on their quarter-long discussions onAffirmative Action. The audience will be encouraged to participate. The eventwill begin with a short video featuring excerpts from Martin Luther King Jr.'s "IHave a Dream" 1963 speech and footage of President Lyndon B. Johnson'sfamous 1964 speech about Executive Order 11246, which established AffirmativeAction programs.
The Manasseh Cutler Scholars Program is a merit scholarshipprogram for academically talented students and is named after Rev. ManassehCutler, co-founder of Ohio University.
Templeton Scholars, named in honor of OhioUniversity's first African-American graduate John Newton Templeton, is a meritscholarship program for academically talented students from under representedraces.
