ATHENS, Ohio -- The deadline is Feb. 3 for Ohio University students to apply for grants available under a program designed to promote undergraduate research.
The Provost's Undergraduate Research Fund, which was established in 2000, will provide up to $50,000 annually to enable students to pursue research projects. The program provides awards ranging from $100 to $1500 to support original research, scholarship and creative activity. These awards cover travel, materials and supplies directly related to the project. Last year, 33 projects were funded.
"Students who are successful in receiving awards are those who submit well-written proposals that thoroughly explain the need for the funding and clearly articulate their missions," said Jan Hodson, assistant dean of the Honors Tutorial College and administrator of the award.
Eligible applicants must be full-time, undergraduate students attending the Athens campus. Students who have previously participated in the project may reapply as long as the submission is for a new research objective. Applicants must be endorsed by a tenure-track faculty member, who will serve as a mentor and oversee the research.
To apply, students must submit a proposal describing the research project and its budget. Applications must be submitted by Feb. 3 to be considered for awards that will be announced March 3. Forms are available from the Honors Tutorial College office at 35 ParkPlace or on the Web at www.ouhtc.org.
