Bobcats return home to 'Stand Up and Cheer' during Homecoming

ATHENS, Ohio -- "Stand up and Cheer" is both the theme and the plan of action for alumni returning to campus and others enjoying this year's Homecoming events at Ohio University the weekend of Oct. 25 to 28. A full schedule of events is on tap that is designed to keep the school spirit alive.

"As always, Homecoming is an ideal time for former classmates and others to gather at their alma mater and again enjoy and celebrate the distinctive, vibrant environment that makes Ohio University such an outstanding place," Executive Director of Alumni Relations Ralph Amos said. "Bobcats always enjoy returning to campus, strolling across the College Green and reminiscing about their shared college experiences."

The traditional Homecoming Parade will step off at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 27, and march from East State Street, down Court Street and to the Convocation Center. The football team will take the field at 1 p.m. in Peden Stadium against Mid-American Conference rival Kent State.

Many of the events have a broad appeal and can be made into a family affair.

Highlights include:

  • Taste of Athens -- Visit your favorite eateries on Court Street for samples from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday. Proceeds benefit United Appeal.
  • Homecoming Parade and Float Competition -- Get into the spirit when the Alumni Band leads the parade on Saturday. The parade starts at 9:30 a.m. on East State Street and concludes at the Convocation Center.
  • Big Top Extravaganza BBQ -- This annual event follows the parade, running from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Saturday in Pepsi Tailgreat Park. There will be music by the Urban Jazz Connection, face painting, a moon bounce, food and other fun activities.
  • Football Game -- Put on the green and white to display your Bobcat pride as Ohio University faces Kent State. Kickoff is at 1 p.m. Saturday at Peden Stadium.
  • University Program Council presents Nancy Cartwright -- Meet the voice of Bart Simpson. Nancy Cartwright, a 13-year voice-over veteran and former Ohio University student, will be on hand at 8 p.m. Saturday in Templeton-Blackburn Alumni Memorial Auditorium. Tickets are available for $3 for students and for $7 for non-students. Call (740) 593-4027 for more information.
