Energy Week comes to Ohio University

ATHENS, Ohio -- Ohio University's utility bills account for a significant portion of the university's budget, about $10 million a year. In order to reduce these significant costs and create campus-wide awareness, Ohio University Facilities and Auxiliaries Division and VESTAR of Cincinnati is hosting a three-day energy policy and technology event.

"The prices will continue to escalate if efforts aren't taken to create awareness of the importance of energy conservation," says Sherwood Wilson, associate vice president for administration for facilities and auxiliaries at Ohio University.

The event will run Oct. 15 through 17 and includes an energy street fair, energy bike marathon and alternative fuel vehicle show. In addition, each day the 1804 room in Baker University Center will host speakers who will focus on such topics current energy policies and conservation research (Oct. 15); deregulation and transportation (Oct. 16); and eco-structure and sustainability (Oct. 17).

"Our intent is to have a focused three days that makes the campus community focus on energy and energy conservation," Wilson says. "If we don't reach the students it's hard for them to equate energy conservation with savings that affects them."

Following is a complete Energy Week schedule of events. All events are open to all members of the Athens community.
